June 1 – Canyons, Glaciers and Waterfalls

This morning took us through more great countryside past a lot of glaciers...

to our lovely hike above the Fjaðrárgljúfur  Canyon…

that ended at the Fjaðrárgljúfur Waterfall.  It was tucked back in amongst the rock walls and was particularly beautiful.

There was also a grey goose posing for us with the waterfall in the background.

On the way out we passed "sheep sorter".  The sheep are driven into the center corral and then moved into one of several pens, one for each shepherd.

Of course there were a lot of other waterfalls to see as we drove between sights.

We took a walk along the glacier lagoon at the Svinafellsjӧkull Glacier…

and then hiked along the cliff wall to get better views of the glacier.  The trail was pretty rocky and, at times, barely a trail.

There were a number of wild flowers blooming and other interesting vegetation…

and a very nice large patch of blooming lupine.

We then headed down the road for another hike,

through some lovely woodlands...

to the Svartifoss waterfall, set among basalt hexagonal columns.

We ended the day back in Vik at a brew house that featured mainly burgers and similar fare.  It was very yummy and Jessica liked the house brewed beer.

At the hotel, we saw other birds:
