June 13 – Drive to Keflavik and the airport.

We were both pretty tired and slept in pretty late.  We had already seen some of the major sights in the area, particularly the nearby glacier, so we decided to work for a while in the morning and then check out at noon and drive to Keflavik to our hotel near the airport.

Since we slept in we missed breakfast at the hotel so stopped midway for lunch.  We found a great “wellness” buffet at the Settlement Center in Borgarnes…totally vegetarian and very good…

with a monstrous loaf of bread.  You could cut off however much you wanted.  And it was still warm from the oven.  Heaven.

Even on the home stretch the scenery and countryside was beautiful.

And the lupine was growing along the limited access highway and the interchanges.

We made it to the airport hotel by late afternoon.

After unloading Paul took the car back to the rental facility and caught a ride back.  The hotel didn’t have a restaurant so we had to walk 10-15 minutes to the only restaurant in the area, then 10-15 minutes back  Not such a long walk but it was very cold.  The food was pretty good, it was just a bit inconvenient.

We finalized our repacking and are now ready to catch our plane tomorrow for the Faroes.
